The South African Pharmacy Council presents key staff movements since the previous issue of the Pharmaciae, including two appointments, three promotions and three retirements.

Appointments, promotions and retirements

The South African Pharmacy Council brings the following changes within its staff complement to the attention of the profession. This article covers appointments, promotions and retirements since the last issue of the Pharmaciae up to and including the end of 2025. In this issue, we announce two appointments, three promotions and three retirements.

Appointments

Madimetja Mashishi

Senior Manager: Communication and Stakeholder Relations

Madimetja Mashishi, CPRP, MBA, is an accomplished communicator with extensive experience in communication, public relations, and strategic management. He returned to the South African Pharmacy Council as Senior Manager: Communication and Stakeholder Relations in May 2025.

Madimetja previously served as the Head of Communication at the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority, where he led the organisation’s Communication and Public Relations sub-programme. Before that, he worked in the Office of the Registrar as Manager: Communication and Media. He also held the role of Assistant Director: Media Relations at Statistics South Africa. Earlier in his career, he gained valuable experience in media, corporate publications, and government communication through various positions.

Madimetja holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Wrexham University (Wales), a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Limpopo, and a Higher Certificate in Management from STADIO (formerly Southern Business School), among other qualifications. He is also a Chartered Public Relations Practitioner (CPRP), registered with the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa (PRISA).

Madimetja is a mild perfectionist who shares Dr Martin Luther King Jr’s view that “if a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of Heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well’”.

Puseletso Mogano

Manager: Professional Affairs (Pre-registration)

Ms Puseletso Mogano rejoined the South African Pharmacy Council in June 2025 in the capacity of Manager: Professional Affairs (Pre-registration). Prior to joining returning to Council, Ms Mogano served as the Manager: Medical Devices and In Vitro Diagnostics (Licensing, Vigilance, and Compliance) at the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority.

Ms Mogano previously occupied the position of Manager: Professional Affair (Practice) in the Office of the Registrar, she also held the position of Senior Technical Advisor at Management Sciences for Health. She holds a Master of Science (Med) degree in Clinical Pharmacy from the University of the Limpopo (MEDUNSA) (now known as Sefako Makgatho Health Science University). She has over 18 years of post-graduation experience across the public and private sectors, academia, regulatory bodies, and NGOs. Ms Mogano contributed to national initiatives supporting the implementation of health information systems such as RxSolution and the Essential Medicines Dashboard, and have worked on policy development, licensing, compliance, and risk management. Ms Mogano believes that hard work always pays off, and that consistent effort, even on the most challenging days, is what drives real progress. She lives by the motto: “Success doesn’t come from what you do occasionally; it comes from what you do consistently”. 

Promotions

Mokoadi Mogano 

Senior Manager: Education

Mr Mokoadi Mogano was appointed as the Senior Manager: Education at the South African Pharmacy Council in March 2025. This role follows a lateral move within the organisation, where he previously served as Senior Manager: CPD and Registrations.

He holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Suffolk (UK), bringing a strong educational foundation to his role. He has held various positions throughout his career, including Manager: Education, Manager: Practice, and Team Leader: Medicine Risk Management. His diverse experience spans across medical aid administration, the South African Military Health Services, institutional pharmacy, and community pharmacy locums.

Mr Mogano is deeply passionate about empowering others through education and believes that health is the foundation for success. His career can be described as “impactful, fulfilling and transformative,” reflecting his dedication to providing access to quality healthcare. His unique professional strengths include being courteous, relatable, innovative, and a team player.

He is driven by the motto: “Seek to understand before being understood,” and encourages young professionals to be selfless in their service, as he believes that “an effective leader is the greatest servant.” Tenacity, self-motivation, and mentorship are, in his view, key to success.

Mulalo Phungo

Senior Manager: CPD & Registrations

Ms Mulalo Phungo was appointed as the Senior Manager: CPD & Registrations at the South African Pharmacy Council on 13 March 2025. She is deeply passionate about advancing healthcare knowledge and has been an active advocate for breastmilk donation campaigns, as well as awareness efforts to enhance the lives of individuals with neurodiversity.

Ms Phungo obtained her qualifications from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where she embraced the belief that lifelong learning enhances both formal and informal education. Her professional journey has been marked by a strong commitment to continuous development, both for herself and those she serves in the profession.

Her career can be described in three words: driven, purposeful, and inspiring. Guided by the mottos: “No human is limited” and “Every loss makes victory”, she approaches challenges as opportunities for growth and achievement.

Ms Phungo is recognised for her empathy, strategic insight, and dedication to service. She continues to make a meaningful contribution to the pharmacy profession with a steadfast focus on professional excellence and community impact. 

Phonia Tshoane

Professional Conduct Practitioner

Ms Phonia Tshoane was appointed as a Professional Conduct Practitioner in March 2025. This promotion follows years of service within the organisation. She joined the South African Pharmacy Council as a Professional Conduct Officer in July 2023.

Ms Tshoane has three (3) years of legal experience and a Bachelor of Law (LLB) Honours from the University of Limpopo. She joined the SAPC as a Professional Conduct Officer after holding positions as a legal intern and a legal practitioner/attorney and completing Practical Legal Training at the Law Society of South Africa in Pretoria in 2021. 

Ms Tshoane is a firm believer in giving back to the people through service and lives by the motto “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.

Retirements

Elmari Venter

Senior Manager: Communication and Stakeholder Relations

After a remarkable 27 years of dedicated service to the profession, Ms Elmari Venter retired from the South African Pharmacy Council in February 2025.

Her foundational contributions to the progress and success of the Communication and Stakeholder Relations department in serving the profession were made through her positions as Public Relations Practitioner, Assistant Manager: Public Relations & Communication, Manager: Public Relations & Customer Services and finally as Senior Manager: Communication & Stakeholder Relations. 

We extend our gratitude to Ms Venter for her invaluable service and wish her continued joy and fulfilment during this new season of her life. 

Hlone Masiza

Senior M anager: Education 

Ms Hlone Masiza bid farewell to the South African Pharmacy Council in February 2025 after diligently serving the pharmacy profession for over an impressive 24 years. Since joining the SAPC in 2000, Ms Masiza has held the positions of Manager: Pharmacy Practice, Manager: Pharmacy Education and finally Senior Manager: Pharmacy Education. In each position, she served with excellence and professionalism.

Her profound impact on the development of pharmacy education is reflected in the many initiatives she helped shape and the lasting relationships she built with stakeholders across the profession. 

We thank Ms Masiza for her vital contribution and wish her bliss and fulfilment during this new chapter of her life. 

Violet Mothupi

Logistics Clerk

After a little more three decades (31 years) at the South African Pharmacy Council, Ms Violet Mothupi retired from her position and bid farewell to the Office of the Registrar in June 2026. Ms Mothupi joined Council in 1994. In her role as Logistics Clerk, she continued served the profession with utmost dedication until her retirement.
