What’s New in Legislation

A round-up of Board Notices published for comment and for implementation since Vol.11 Issue 2, including new criteria for tutors, fees and the Code of Conduct.

Legislation having an impact on Pharmacy and the practice environment is continuously updated in response to the changing healthcare environment and other factors. We endeavour to include all legislative amendments and new/proposed legislation in each issue of the e-Pharmaciae. This issue looks at the legislation published since the last issue of the Pharmaciae (Vol. 11, Issue 2).

This issue of the Pharmaciae provides an update on legislative changes and proposed changes pertaining to pharmacy since the last issue of the Pharmaciae (Vol. 11, Issue 2). Proposed changes to legislation and rules are published at www.sapc.za.org/Legislation_Proposed as and when such proposed changes are published in the Government Gazette; in 2026, Council published the following proposed new legislation, rules and changes to existing rules and legislation:

  • Board Notice 966 of 2026: Accreditation criteria for a compounding and dispensing course for Practitioners (for comment – 60 days, due date 30 September 2026)

  • Board Notice 965 of 2026: Accreditation criteria for a Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) short course for nurses (for comment – 60 days, due date 30 September 2026)

  • Board Notice 955 of 2026: Criteria for Certificate of Good Standing (for comment – 30 days, due date 03 August 2026)

  • Board Notice 952 of 2026: Minimum standards specifically relating to the prevention of fronting in the practice of pharmacy (for comment – 60 days, due date 30 August 2026)

  • Board Notice 912 of 2026: Criteria for a Dispensing Course for Healthcare Professionals (for comment – 60 days, due date 24 June 2026)

  • Board Notice 881 of 2026: Rules relating to the Code of Conduct for registered persons (for comment – 60 days, due date 11 April 2026)

  • Board Notice 879 of 2026: Rules relating to good pharmacy practice (for comment – 60 days, due date 11 April 2026).
